| Since it's formation in 1936, the Brisbane
Arts Theatre has amassed an extensive range of costumes and accessories.
Along with reproduction and character costumes, the collection includes
a comprehensive range of authentic clothing dating from the 1890s
onwards.
Due to their historical value, a selection of these garments have
been retired from use and retained as reference material for our
company designers.
In order to share this important resource with researchers, students
and vintage fashion enthusiasts, we successfully applied for a Brisbane
City Council Local History Grant. The grant has allowed us to catalogue
and photograph a selection of the garments (1890's - 1960's) and
share them online.
We hope to expand this website in future to include fashion from
the 1970's through to the present day, as well as male clothing.
