Brisbane Arts Theatre's
20th Annual Drama Festival

Playing August 27th -September 13th

History of the Drama Festival

Brisbane Arts Theatre was established in 1936 and for much of that time Arts has been involved in presenting new works and new playwrights. Bearing this in mind, it is interesting to note Brisbane Arts has a strong history in Drama Festival involvement for local Community Theatres.

From the early 70s to 1987 (inclusive) The Brisbane Warana Drama Festival was staged each year at Brisbane Arts and was one of the major theatrical events in Brisbane involved with Warana Festival. The sponsors at that time were Shell Oil.

Then Brisbane Arts Theatre began the current Festival, under it’s own banner. The first festival was held in 1988 and has been on-going.
