Brisbane Arts Theatre was founded in 1936 by Jean Trundle and Vic Hardgraves. Their goal was to provide a means of expression for Brisbane’s artistic practitioners through a unique home for people to improve the quality of their lives. These aims have not strayed very far in the decades that have followed.
An iconic independent theatre company
Each year, we aim to produce engaging, high quality, accessible theatre for all ages. Whether it be a timeless classic on our Mainstage, or a funky musical in the Children’s Theatre our yearly seasons have something for the entire family. With over 80 seasons under our belt, we aim to make each year bigger and better.
As well as producing theatre, we operate as a training organisation – educating and providing support for emerging artists and future industry professionals, from ages 7 and up. We offer a variety of different workshops that suit a diverse range of theatre-lovers, and our students see ample opportunities each year to perform on our stage for both their classes, and our Mainhouse or Children’s Theatre.
With this in mind, we aim to maintain our utmost dedication to those who fuel us – the community. Brisbane Arts Theatre is a not-for-profit independent theatre company, and everything we do, we do with our people in mind. We are powered by our dedicated members – many of whom are active performers and crew with us, and many who just enjoy a good night at the theatre.
